Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy

Gill-Thomas-Cosman (GTC) Relocatable Head Frame

The GTC is a non-invasive, relocatable head frame used for Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy treatment.

Relocatable Head Frame

To accommodate heads of all sizes, the frame uses a combination of dental trays of various sizes, dental extension plates, and two types of vertical brackets. The depth helmet and depth probe are used to ensure accuracy in reapplying the frame. MRI and CT scans are also required - MRI is usually conducted with IV contrast, CT without.

The planning procedure normally takes a total of 4 hours including 'free time' breaks, but may take longer due to the MRI scans.  Although CT scans take place within the Radiation Oncology department, the MRI unit is in a different department of the Prince of Wales Hospital.
