Bulbuwil Joins Knockout Health Challenge
The Bulbuwil Aboriginal lifestyle support program is marking a significant milestone by joining the Knockout Health Challenge for the first time. This community-led initiative, funded by the NSW Ministry of Health, supports Aboriginal people across NSW to live healthy, active lives in culturally meaningful ways.
For over a decade, Bulbuwil has supported Aboriginal people in the Sutherland and St George regions who are at risk of or living with chronic health conditions. The team includes an Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyle Officer, Nurse, Dietitian, and Exercise Physiologist, offering:
- weekly exercise groups
- monthly cooking sessions
- quit smoking support
- outreach services like eye check clinics.
This year, 25 participants have registered under the team name “Living Deadly on Dharawal.” To support them, Bulbuwil has introduced three new evening sessions to complement its regular day programs, helping remove barriers for those who work or study during the day. These sessions have already seen strong engagement, with many participants new to the program.
All participants have completed health screenings and set personal goals, with progress to be reviewed mid-way and at the end of the 10-week challenge.
Bulbuwil is proud to support our community in living deadly and staying strong. You can read more about the Knockout Health Challenge on their website.
