Celebrating excellence in multicultural health care

Congratulations to the Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS), a statewide service hosted by SESLHD, who have won a 2025 NSW Humanitarian Award for their Translated Health Information for Refugee Communities project

Their award, in the Government and Legal category, is the second accolade the NSW MHCS have received for this important project, having won the Excellence in Multicultural Healthcare Award at the 2025 SESLHD CORE Awards.

Led in partnership with the NSW Refugee Health Service, Settlement Services International, and people with lived experience, the initiative addresses a critical health information gap for refugee communities in NSW.

By developing a best practice guide, auditing existing resources, and translating key materials into 20 languages spoken by refugee communities in NSW, the project will help refugee communities get the information they need to look after their health.

“I am incredibly proud of my team for this worthy recognition, their commitment to best practice, and working with people from refugee backgrounds to meet their health communication needs,” said Lisa Woodland, Director of the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service and SESLHD’s Equity and Prevention Service.
