Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS)
The Sutherland Hospital is now offering Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) in the Outpatient Clinic for Women who are less than 20 weeks experiencing complications in Early pregnancy.
These may include:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Mild to moderate abdominal pain
- Pregnancy of unknown location
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Threatened or incomplete miscarriage
- Missed miscarriage
- Retained products of conception post a miscarriage or termination of pregnancy
- Possible uterine arteriovenous malformation
- A suspected molar pregnancy

The service operates via appointments only on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
EPAS is closed on weekends and public holidays.
EPAS is for Women who are less than 20 weeks experiencing complications in Early pregnancy.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Negative Beta hCG
- General gynaecological problems unrelated to early pregnancy
- Referral for a termination of pregnancy
- Women who are clinically unstable and require urgent medical attention
- Hyperemesis gravidarum
EPAS is not a walk-in clinic and does not accept self-referrals.
A referral must be made by either the TSH Emergency Department or your General Practitioner through the eReferral system.
Women who are less than 20 weeks experiencing complications in early pregnancy.
These may include;

- Ectopic pregnancy
- Threatened or incomplete miscarriage
- Missed miscarriage

An EPAS Midwife will contact you by phone or text to discuss your symptoms and organise your first face-to-face appointment. Please be aware that this call may appear from a private number.
We understand that this can be stressful time. Whenever possible, we aim to offer an appointment within 48 hours.
There is no cost. Financial consent for billing will be discussed with you at your first appointment.
