Christine Harris
Nurse Manager: Education
Calvary Hospital
“I always want to see things done better.
I have the opportunity to think differently and be creative in my role, and I also work with other people that have that agenda, and that’s really nice.
An example would be when I first started managing the student placements here about 6 years ago. There was a culture of ‘we are too busy, we don’t have time to take students’. Now, the culture has changed significantly and the staff see it as part of their role to take on the education, supervision and facilitation of the students. They incorporate it into their daily activities. If for some reason we don’t have students on the wards, the staff ask ‘where are the students?’
When I’m not at work, I try to stay as active as possible – walking, swimming, and our new found activity of kayaking. We kayak along the Woronora River and we’re starting to go further afield.”
