Cindy Oxley
Administration/Ward Clerk, Haematology/Oncology Ward
Prince of Wales Hospital

I truly believe I didn’t choose health; health chose me. It’s where I was born to connect with people. Having an Indigenous mother, she always used to say that to me, and this is the last place I held my mother before she passed. It’s not sad, because I’ve done a lot of things here. I know that connection is there, because this is the place I want to show up to every day.
The more I engage with patients and their families on the ward, the more I can do for them. I’m lucky because my doctors entrust me into the lives of these patients. They come to me and ask ‘can you help this family by this way’. So that helps me, because I want to be at my best, because I want to be in the best team.
I saw a patient pass away years ago and her daughter said ‘this is something I would like to do, what you’ve done after the passing of yours’ and I think the biggest inspiration was when I saw her working here. You wanted that path the same as I did, so I know I’m inspiring people out there.
I love the bunnies, I’m a Rabbitohs supporter. I have a connection to a lot of the male porters here. We have the Canterbury Bankstown supporters, so we’re at each other every time we play, we’re all running around trying to get the best tips.
