Developmental Disability Assessment Team (DDAT)

The Developmental Disability Assessment Team (DDAT) provides assessment and diagnosis for children where there are significant concerns regarding a child's development identified, specifically for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay or Intellectual Disability.

Our team is based in Kogarah and includes Paediatricians, Clinical Psychologist and Registrars, Social Workers & Speech Pathologists.

 

Who does this team see?

The Developmental Disability Assessment Team see children:

  • Where there are concerns for possible Global Developmental Delay and/or Autism Spectrum

  • Who are yet to commence primary school

  • Who live within local government areas in St George or Sutherland

 

I have concerns about my child's development - where should I start?

There are many service options to children and families who may be concerned about their child's development

GP

Your local GP can support children and families with any developmental concerns.  The GP can make referrals to appropriate services and specialists, such as a Paediatrician.

Child and Family Health Nurse

Your child's growth and developmental can be tracked and monitored for any concerns through a Child and Family Health Centre.  No referral is necessary, please call 1300 244 288.

 

How do you refer to the Developmental Disability Assessment Team?

Referrals to the Developmental Disability Assessment Team are accepted from health professionals ONLY

We recommend the person completing the referral is well known to the child and can provide detailed information regarding the child's development and concerns.

Further Information for Referrers

Steps to completing a referral

  1. Consent must be obtained from primary care giver
  2. Follow the steps to complete the SESLHD Developmental Disability Assessment Team (DDAT): Diagnostic and Assessment Referral Form 
  3. Attach a detailed clinic letter describing concerns with the referral form (If Appendix A is not completed on the referral form
