Celebrating strength and spirit
Aboriginal Elders and community members recently went for gold at the 2025 Eora Elders Olympics, a day of fun and connection for all involved.
The day was filled with laughter, cheers, and team pride, as participants competed in friendly games while proudly wearing their colours.
Staff, volunteers and officials ensured the event ran with joy. Elders played a central role in the planning of the event, with their contributions deeply valued by the working group and community partners.
Karina Crutch, Manager of the Bulbuwil Healthy Lifestyle team, says it was a fantastic day that reinforced the importance of exercise and socialisation, especially as we get older.
“The Eora Elders Olympics is one of my favourite days of the year. It’s an opportunity for Elders, staff and community to connect, have a yarn, and have some fun while keeping active.”
The event brings together five Aboriginal organisations delivering aged care and disability services across South Eastern Sydney: Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care Program, Guriwal Aboriginal Corporation, Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation, Aboriginal Medical Service, and Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation.
SESLHD programs supporting the event include the Integrated Care Bulbuwil and Aboriginal Supportive & Community Care, Aboriginal Health Directorate, Aboriginal staff from the Equity and Prevention team and Aboriginal Women’s Health.
For the past five years, the SESLHD Integrated Care Bulbuwil Healthy Lifestyle team has proudly supported Kurranulla with team t-shirts and health screening services, and the Bulbuwil team had a fantastic time once again supporting this event.
