Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down
We recently marked Hepatitis Awareness Week 2025 with a hands-on campaign aimed at breaking down barriers to testing and treatment and tackling the stigma surrounding viral hepatitis all year round.
As part of this year’s theme, Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down, 21 services across the District hosted events to engage staff and community members.
Competitions, quizzes, spinning wheel prizes and the support of peer workers from SESLHD and Hepatitis NSW helped get people talking and learning about hepatitis. More than 250 people had hepatitis C testing during the week.
A highlight of the week was the launch of new co-designed resources aimed at boosting hepatitis B awareness within the Chinese community.
“It was fantastic to see our staff and services engage so meaningfully this Hepatitis Awareness Week,” said Dr Phillip Read, Director of Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Services.
“Hepatitis elimination is possible, but it’s a shared responsibility. Hepatitis Awareness Week is a chance to break down stigma, open up conversations and make testing and treatment easier to access.”
