Human Experience Week 2025

Staff, patients, families and visitors celebrated The HeART of Healing across the District as part of Human Experience Week (5 – 9 May).  Human Experience Week is about blending the science of medicine and health with the art of kindness, compassion, empathy and human connection.

At St George Hospital, participants were invited to sew a small felt pocket heart for themselves, a colleague or a loved one while enjoying a coffee or a mocktail.

The New Horizons Jazz Band filled the Sutherland Hospital atrium with beautiful music while those taking part were invited to sew pocket hearts. Throughout the week, staff were invited to decorate a paper heart for display in the atrium; and contribute to an artwork by sharing a word that they feel highlights healthcare at the HeART of their community.

At the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital celebrations, led by the District Nursing & Midwifery teams, activities included an offering of HeARTIST workshops, spaces designed for connection, sharing a sweet treat and sewing a felt pocket heart.

These events saw hundreds of staff engage in this years’ Human Experience Week, coming together to elevate the human experience.
