Nursing and Midwifery recruits are ready

SESLHD has recently become home to 421 newly graduated nurses and midwives who have commenced their careers as part of the District’s nursing and midwifery 2024 intake.

Through exposure to various experiences and educational opportunities, our District will provide the new starters with the ability to embrace and build upon their passion for a career in caring for patients.

Kate Hackett, SESLHD Director of Nursing and Midwifery has said that “the graduate year in your nursing or midwifery career is full of development and learning. It is the culmination of years of study and practical experience, with a realisation of your responsibility as a health care professional in providing person-centred care to our community. It carries all the emotions – fulfilment, challenges, new connections and friendships along with amazing experiences. I wish our 2024 graduate nurses and midwives all the best.”

It has only been a few weeks into the year-long program, but the new graduates have already been experiencing these emotions. Mirri Daziel who has commenced with the Paediatrics team at St George Hospital said that she feels “deeply privileged to be part of the team, and I'm certain that everyone shares a similar sentiment about the wards they'll be working in.”

Days away from completing her program, 2023 new graduate intake Annelise Faust has happily accepted a permanent, full-time position in the Critical Care Unit at The Sutherland Hospital.

Currently completing her Advanced Life Support Training and Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing, Annelise said she felt very well supported throughout her journey and encouraged the new nurses to embrace all opportunities.
