Opportunity to smile

Purchasing an antique vase or a second-hand dress from the St George Hospital Op Shop doesn’t just increase your street-cred but also helps purchase much-needed medical equipment.

The Op-Shop, run entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers, has supported St George Hospital for over 50 years and a recent donation has purchased an ECG for the Coronary Care Unit and a Smileyscope for the Emergency Department.

What’s a Smileyscope you ask? A Smileyscope is a virtual reality headset used to decrease patient perception of pain, anxiety and distress. It acts as distraction therapy for children and adults and is the first time St George Hospital has been equipped with this new technology.

The ongoing support and recent donations from the St George Hospital Op-Shop are always gratefully accepted and we thank everyone involved.

The St George Hospital Op-Shop is located at 1 Derby Street, Kogarah and open Monday to Friday 9am-1.30pm and the first Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm.
