SESLHD celebrates International Nurses & Midwives Day

Nurses and midwives across the district were recognised and awarded for their invaluable work as part of the 2019 International Nurses and Midwives Day celebrations last week.

The theme for International Nurses Day this year is ‘Nurses – a voice to lead, health for all’, which refers to nurses engaging with and shaping health policy to generate change. The theme for International Day of the Midwife 2019 is ‘Midwives – defenders of women’s rights’, which focuses on the role of the midwife in advocating for the rights of women and girls around the world.

Kim Olesen, Director, Nursing & Midwifery, SESLHD, said the celebrations provide an opportunity to reflect upon and acknowledge the instrumental role of our nurses and midwives and how their work contributes to the health and wellbeing of communities across our district.

“Our midwives and nurses work tirelessly around the clock to provide patients, and their families, compassionate and evidence-based care. Please join me in congratulating these special people by recognising the wonderful work that they do and the tremendous difference they make to the lives of others, every day.”

A number of festivities took place at each of the hospitals throughout the district during the course of the week. Click here for details about the events and here for the full list of 2019 International Nurses and Midwives Day awards.
