Speech Pathology Week: Celebrating Communication Across SESLHD
This Speech Pathology Week, speech pathologists across the District came together at Calvary Health Care Kogarah for Speech SQuaRes, an annual showcase for the district’s speech pathologists to present stories, quality initiatives and research. These presentations reflect the depth and diversity of the profession and its positive impact on a person’s communication outcomes across their lifetime.
Speech Pathology Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the life-changing work that speech pathologists do every day. Their expertise not only enhances communication but also empowers individuals to thrive in their communities.
Communication enables people to express themselves, build relationships, access education and employment, and maintain emotional and social wellbeing. Speech pathologists play a vital role in making this possible, working across hospitals, community health, and specialist services to support people of all ages and backgrounds.
“Speech SQuaRes highlights the diversity of our profession,” explained Tracy Kelly, Speech Pathology Advisor, SESLHD.
“It showcases everything from managing swallowing difficulties in newborns, running preschool language groups, language testing during awake craniotomy (brain surgery), delivering gender-affirming services through True Colours, exploring treatment options for primary progressive aphasia (a rare neurological condition that gradually impairs a person's ability to communicate, affecting speech and language skills), and supporting our teams through cross-disciplinary peer supervision and the Aboriginal Cadetship Program.”
Thank you to our speech pathology teams across SESLHD for their dedication and innovation.
