Sutherland Hospital RADIUS official launch

Sutherland Hospital hosted guests including Mark Speakman MP, Member for Cronulla and Attorney-General, Eleni Petinos MP, Member for Miranda and Lee Evans MP, Member for Heathcote, for an official opening of the Rapid Assessment, Diagnosis and Intervention Unit Sutherland (RADIUS) recently.

Valerie Jovanovic, General Manager, Sutherland Hospital, welcomed attendees, and said that RADIUS is a new model of care that aims to address some of the demand and access challenges which affect both patients and staff.

“The launch of RADIUS has strengthened Sutherland Hospital’s position as a leader in providing community integrated care – this is the first time this model of care has been implemented in Australia.

“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the planning and initial implementation of RADIUS – from the steering committee, to district executives and the RADIUS staff team,” Ms Jovanovic said.

Associate Professor Peter Gonski, Director, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Sutherland Hospital and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, provided information about RADIUS operations.

“RADIUS aims to address some access challenges for people aged 16 years and over who present with complex medical conditions and are not critically unwell.

“RADIUS provides rapid, responsive care to help people avoid or reduce the time they spend in hospital through thorough assessment and coordination with community services.

“We look forward to continuing to develop this new model of care, and to drive new and effective ways of looking at healthcare delivery – for our own community, and beyond,” Associate Professor Gonski said.

311 patients have come through RADIUS during its first nine weeks of operations.

RADIUS is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 6.00pm. For more information, please contact: 02 9540 8321.
