The Sutherland Hospital Respiratory Department shines at international conference

At the recent Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) annual congress in Hong Kong, The Sutherland Hospital Respiratory Department made a significant impact at the event, showcasing their expertise and research capabilities.

APSR is the international specialty body responsible for advancements in respiratory medicine across the Asia-Pacific region.

Three advanced trainees from the department, Drs. Hariette Goldman, William Nigole, and Anthony Carrozzi, presented their original research at the conference.

Dr. Carrozzi presented his study on the management of malignant pleural effusions (a complication of cancer that causes the build-up of fluids in the membrane surrounding the lungs); while Dr. Goldman focused on the intersection of cardiac and respiratory diseases. Dr. Nigole’s research explored our experience of tuberculosis in the context of lung cancer.

“As co-heads of Department Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Sutherland Hospital, Dr Corinna Pan and I congratulate our trainees on the recognition they received at the conference, which reflects so positively on our department,” said Clinical Associate Professor Benjamin Kwan, Respiratory & Sleep Medicine.

“This showcases our teaching and academic excellence, particularly from our talented trainees, and highlights our service’s commitment to contribute significantly to the global advancement of respiratory medicine”.
