Transforming lives for 20 years
The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation began in 2004 with a donation that funded a wheelchair-accessible bus to transport spinal patients.
Since then, it has raised millions to support research and innovation, education, staff wellbeing and vital equipment at Prince of Wales Hospital.
“Our Hospital has benefited greatly from the invaluable contributions made by our Foundation,” said Jennie Barry, the General Manager of the Prince of Wales Hospital.
“We are so proud to be celebrating 20 years of impact and support, and having the opportunity to thank them.”
The Foundation has recently made big improvements in Aged Care, with initiatives such as using music to reduce anxiety amongst aged care residents. Another milestone was a $2 million investment in the Automated Dispensing Cabinets, which support safer, faster improved medication management across the entire hospital.
The Foundation has also been pivotal in work being undertaken by Australia’s leading eye experts, led by Prince of Wales Hospital’s Professor Minas Coroneo AO. This team of experts are working on a prototype of a smartphone-based tool used for the assessment of ultraviolet damage to the eye, which can be an early predictor for skin cancer.
The study is just one of the many medical breakthroughs that have been made possible by a grant from the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation.
“The funds raised by the Foundation through the community, philanthropists and corporate partners, are a crucial source of support for our staff and services,” Ms Barry said. “Thanks to them, we can continue to save and improve thousands of lives, and stay at the forefront of medical advancements”.
The foundation recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary with an event at Randwick Racecourse to highlight achievements and award $1 million in Annual Grants to POWH staff.
