Welcoming our new staff members

It’s been a busy time across the District as we welcome new medical interns, GradStart registered nurses and Gradstart midwives who are all beginning their careers with us.

A total of 138 new medical interns have taken up their initial positions and will be provided with formal and on-the-job training.

“I wish each intern all the best for the coming year. Starting internship is an exciting time and I do hope you will take advantage of all the wonderful training opportunities in SESLHD and enjoy your career with us,” said Dr Jo Karnaghan, Director, Clinical Governance and Medical Services.

Interns are medical graduates who have completed their medical degree and are required to complete a supervised year of practice to become independent practitioners.

They will rotate across different specialties during the intern year, including surgery, medicine and emergency medicine.

A total of 284 new GradStart registered nurses and Gradstart registered midwives have also completed their orientation and are now working across the District.

“I’m so happy to be welcoming these nurses and midwives. We are committed to creating an environment that nurtures growth, fosters learning, and provides unwavering support as they transition into their rewarding professions,” said Kate Hackett, Director of Nursing and Midwifery.

We look forward to guiding, mentoring, and celebrating all these new recruits' successes as they contribute to the exceptional care we provide to our community.
