Intersectoral Homelessness Health Strategy
The 2016 Census identified a high concentration of people experiencing homelessness in the Sydney Inner City area, with around 25% of all rough sleepers in NSW residing in this area on Census night (ABS 2016).
The Sydney Inner City area comprises the City of Sydney Council (COS) with health services to the area provided by South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), Sydney Local Health District (SLHD), St Vincent’s Health Network (SVHN) and other primary health providers.
There is currently no overarching policy or plan that identifies priorities for the provision of health services to people experiencing homelessness. Subsequently, SESLHD, SLHD and SVHN along with the City of Sydney Council, Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network (CESPHN) and Family and Community Services (FACS) have committed to working in partnership to improve health outcomes for this group with particular focus on formalising a strategic approach to the coordination of planning, delivery and evaluation of services. The Intersectoral Homelessness Health Strategy is expected to be released in early 2019.
