Schools Program
What we offer
- Guest speakers to present at your school (Volunteers, NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service staff)
- Cool.org lesson plans and resources
- Activity and event calendar
Why schools?
While many Australians (16+) support organ and tissue donation (80%), only around one in three (36%) are registered to be a donor. This is even less among young people, where fewer than 1 in 10 are registered.
The Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA) wanted to learn what young people thought of organ and tissue donation. The OTA partnered with La Trobe University to find out how young people wanted to learn.
We used the findings below to help inform our schools program:
- Young people want to make educated decisions but need reliable information
- They want to learn from a younger age
- They feel that learning about it in school makes it a more normal topic
We will work around the needs of you and your students. We can change the duration and focal point of our presentations to suit your classroom.
