Aboriginal Women’s Health Coordinator, Equity and Prevention Service
Women’s Health Program, La Perouse
“I’m a proud Aboriginal Woman from La Perouse. I started in my role in the Women’s Health Team for Equity and Prevention Service in March 2024 and I’m really enjoying it. I bring my own cultural experience and knowledge to the role where I connect Aboriginal women to women’s health services, such as our clinics or to other services like Breast Screen or information on cervical screening.
The way I see myself making a difference is that I actually listen and take back to my team, or to a health service, feedback to culturally tailor services. I think that is an important part of health services, understanding how they can cater for Aboriginal people. If you don’t know something, how are you going to change it? How are you going to have those people come through the door? It might not fix the problem straight away but at least its starting conversations or planting the seed.
I’m a very busy mum, with four beautiful kids who I adore. I’m kept pretty busy most weekends. I start work on a Monday and think ‘what did I just do on the weekend?’ because it’s non-stop. And it’s not just my babies, but it’s my extended family members too. We always get together. Just being around family is mostly what I do when I’m away from work.”
