"Many of the clients that I come in contact with have had a few previous admissions to the unit. I feel connected with clients when they’re readmitted to the mental health ward... In my line of work, it’s so important to establish good rapport. Sometimes it takes a bit of time, but it’s really nice when I see a familiar face and they remember my name and the connection is still there.

The patients that I care for are vulnerable and sometimes quite fearful… to be able to empathise with someone greatly impacts the way that I can provide care as it gives me a better understanding of their needs and how I can assist them. Generally people respond a lot better when someone is compassionate towards them; everybody likes to feel like someone cares!"
