Child Safe Standards

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is dedicated to providing a safe environment for all children and young people. SESLHD is implementing the Child Safe Standards to make our services safer for children and young people, because child safety is everybody’s business.

The 10 Child Safe Standards provide an evidence-based framework for creating child-safe organisations. They are designed to drive cultural change, helping to create, maintain, and improve child-safe practices. When organisations apply the Standards, they build a culture in which the abuse of children and young people is prevented, responded to, and reported.

Under the Children’s Guardian Act 2019, all NSW Health organisations, including those not directly servicing children and young people, must implement these standards. The Office of the Children’s Guardian monitors progress and has compliance powers to ensure adherence.

The Ministry of Health has also introduced a Child Safe Action Plan (CSAP) to guide NSW Health entities in becoming 'Child Safe Organisations' by outlining key actions to support child safety.

SESLHD Statements of Commitment
The SESLHD Child Safe Organisation Statement of Commitment should be printed and displayed in every workspace.
The Statement of Commitment- Children and Young People poster should be printed and displayed in all clinic areas where children and families are seen.
