The Royal Hospital for Women Breast Services (previously known as the NSW Women's Breast Centre) provides evidence-based diagnosis and treatment for breast conditions, serving over 2,500 women annually. As one of the leading breast services in NSW, it offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, same day service. This allows women to undergo all necessary investigations in a single visit, with follow-up visits scheduled as needed.

  • Radiology: Includes 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, image-guided biopsies and pre-operative MagSeed localisations.
  • Surgical Treatment: Oncoplastic breast surgical techniques for the treatment of breast cancer. Surgical management of benign breast conditions. Full range of breast reconstructive procedures.
  • Breast Assessment Clinic: Held every Wednesday, focusing on symptomatic women and those with a family history. Includes MRI screening for high-risk women.

Who to Refer

Breast Services accepts referrals for women with:

  • Breast symptoms
  • History of breast cancer
  • Significant family history of breast cancer

Referral Criteria

Please ensure all referrals meet the following criteria: 

  1. Written by a medical practitioner in a private practice or a Senior Medical Officer;
  2. Signed and dated by referring practitioner and include their Provider Number and place of practice;
  3. Include length of referral, unless it is a 12-month referral;

How to Refer

The process for referring a patient is:

  1. GP/referrer to send through referral via fax or email using the referral template
  2. The referral will be checked to ensure it is valid, if not extra information will be sourced from the referrer;
  3. If valid, the referral will be triaged by clinic Nurse Unit Manager;
  4. Patient notified by text/call regarding appointment

Waiting List

There is no waiting list for this service. All referrals are assessed by medical staff and prioritised according to clinical criteria. 

If you hold a valid Medicare card the visit is Bulk Billed.

If you do not hold a Medicare card a fee will be charged on arrival, please contact the clinic for further information.
