Organ and Tissue Donation
There are almost 1,400 people in Australia on waiting lists for organ donation at any given time. By registering to become an organ donor you could be making the greatest gift one human being can give another – the gift of life.
People 16 years of age or older can register to donate their organs and tissue. You must register with the Australian Organ Donor Register. This is the only national register for people to record their decision. It can be verified 24 hours a day, seven days a week by authorised personnel anywhere in Australia. The old NSW driver's license system is no longer valid.
For further information you can:
- call the Australian Organ Donor Registry on 1800 777 203
- visit their site DonateLife or
- visit the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Organ and Tissue Donation Service.
Most importantly tell your family or carer of your decision.
