DonateLife Week

Sunday 26 July - Sunday 2 August 2020

DonateLife Week is the national awareness week to promote organ and tissue donation in Australia.

This DonateLife Week we're encouraging more Australians to register to be an organ and tissue donor and to have a conversation about it with their family and friends.

The DonateLife Supporter Kit features a range of resources that you can use to help promote organ and tissue donation during DonateLife Week. The kit includes posters, online banners, newsletter articles, key messages and promotion material to use across social media. Download the latest supporter kit here: donatelife.gov.au/resources/donatelife-week.

Every year activities and events take place across the state as part of DonateLife Week.

Jersey Day

Friday 4 September 2020

Jersey Day has been inspired by the story of Nathan Gremmo who tragically lost his life in an accident in 2015. Nathan’s family chose to give the gift of life to others to honour the legacy of Nathan’s generous personality.

Jersey Day is all about raising awareness of organ and tissue donation. On Friday 4 September 2020 schools and workplaces across Australia will don their favourite sporting jersey to show their support.

For more information about Jersey Day and how you can become involved visit jerseyday.com.au.

Saffron Day

Thursday 22 October 2020

Thursday 22 October 2020 is Saffron Day, a day that honours Deyaan Udani, a seven year old boy who tragically passed away on a family holiday in 2016. Deyaan and his older sister Naisha had learned about organ and tissue donation at school. The siblings told their parents they wanted to be organ donors to help save the lives of others.

Deyaan's family came up with the idea of Saffron Day because orange was Deyaan's favourite colour and symoblises courage, strength and sacrifice, qualities seen in Deyaan. On this day, Australians are urged to 'Do it fo Deyaan' by registering their decision to become an organ and tissue donor.

POSTPONED - Sydney Remembrance Service

Saturday 21 November 2020 (tentative)

The NSW Organ & Tissue Donation Service has made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s Service of Remembrance, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday 30th May 2020 at the Wesley Theatre, Sydney.

The decision has been made after careful consideration of the latest advice and directive from NSW Health and the Australian Government regarding the cancellation of mass gatherings in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

We believe this was the only responsible course of action to take, in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our community, and those who attend the Service each year. Individuals who may be more vulnerable, in particular those with compromised immune systems, must be protected as much as possible.

We acknowledge how important the Service of Remembrance is, as a way to honour and remember those that have generously given life through organ donation, and to come together and pay special tribute to those people and their families. Therefore, we apologise for the postponement and any disappointment.

At this stage, the Service is postponed tentatively until Saturday 21st November 2020. Please check the events page of the DonateLife website (donatelife.gov.au) for updates and confirmation of an alternate date.
