Respiratory and Infectious Diseases Ward
How we can help you
Our ward cares for you if you have a problem with your lungs or breathing or if you have an infection. The infection might be bacterial, viral, or related to travel.
We provide nursing care to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A doctor is always available. Other members of the team such as Social Work, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Psychologists etc are available from 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Nursing shift change-over will happen at 7:00 am or 7:00 pm. Nurses will take your blood pressure and other assessments every day at 9.00 am, 3.00 pm, 9.00 pm and 3.00 am. Some patients may need this done more often depending on your condition.
Doctor’s bedside-round times will vary depending on who your treating doctor is. Please speak to one of our staff members if you would like to find out what time you can expect to see your medical team.
Every morning at 9:00 am, our team will meet to discuss your care and identify any ways we can help to get you well and home as safely as possible.
Meals are delivered from 07:30 am, 12:30 pm, 5:30 pm please let staff know if you have specific allergies or dietary requirements.
We are a teaching hospital and you may be asked to be involved in research or for a student to be present at your appointment. You have a right to say no. If you do so, this will not impact in any way on the services we will provide.
Please let us know if you need an interpreter on the ward. If you are dialing in from home, you can contact us telephoning the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) National on 131 450. Tell the operator what language you speak and then ask the interpreter to set up a telephone conversation between you, an interpreter, and the healthcare professional you want to speak with.
